Please join the Yarilo Music Ensemble pianists Jane Hayes and Anna Levy and invited guests, cellist Ian Hampton and soprano Yuliana Tichelova for this festive musical celebration of spring with its overriding themes of ritual and prayer. The program ranges from the contemplative Christian response to this post-Easter season with Sir John Tavener’s Chant for solo cello, the haunting Melina for solo voice and Julia Tsenova’s Prayer for the Holy Cross, to the overtly pagan with Tsenova’s Shopp Dances and Prayer to a Sigh. Also on the program will be the premiere performance of a new work commissioned expressly for the occasion by Vancouver composer Colin MacDonald. Our concert will end with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s joyous Easter from his Suite No. 1 for two pianos.
