The Yarilo Ensemble has scheduled four concerts for its inaugural season. In keeping with its name, Yarilo, a god of Spring and Summer, the concerts are set for the early summer months.
The Colin MacDonald Pocket Orchestra presents jazzy and dancing post-minimalist music by British and Canadian composers in a program called Modus Operandi. From movie music by Oscar-winner Michael Nyman, to Graham Fitkin’s tongue-in-cheek look at Beethoven, to Steve Martland’s plaintive Pavane, contemporary British composers keep us moving in our seats. Homegrown Canadian music is also well represented with ensemble cellist Stefan Hintersteininger’s lively work “Shameless”, and two premieres by Pocket Orchestra director Colin MacDonald.
Refreshments will be served after all concerts.
